From sketchbooks to product design
Born into a Vietnamese immigrant family in Southern California. Growing up between two cultures taught me early that communication is rarely about the words. It's about whether the other person actually understands you.
I was always drawing. Sketchbooks, margins of homework, anything with a blank surface. Design wasn't a career plan yet. It was just how I processed the world.
Around the same time I became fascinated by what technology could actually do for people. Not the hardware, the potential. The idea that software could solve real problems for real humans stuck with me and never left.
My family moved to Indiana. New state, new school, new everything. I leaned harder into the things that felt stable: art, technology, and figuring out how things worked.
By high school I had convinced myself that CS was the path. It felt like the serious version of the fascination I'd had since I was eight, so I committed fully.
Got into Purdue's computer science program. It was everything I thought I wanted.
Two years into CS, I was technically capable but creatively hollow. The logic was satisfying, but the work felt disconnected from people. What changed it was the UX community at Purdue, designers who showed me up close what the field actually looked like. I didn't need much convincing.
I wasn't choosing between technology and design. I was finally combining them the right way.
Graduated from Purdue with a B.S. in User Experience Design. Based in Indianapolis, looking for a product design role where I can keep doing what the switch taught me: use technical fluency to design things that actually work for the people using them.
As an Asian American in the Midwest, I grew up in a predominately white community with a lack of representation for people of color. As a result, IĀ am passionate about advocating for representation and cultural awareness. During my time at Purdue, IĀ was able to channel this passion into leadership in many organizations in the Asian community. Feel free to click and check out any of the organizations I was a part of!
